Announcement Best Practices
  • Never announce an endorsement without confirming the exact quote and announcement format with the endorser first
  • High-profile endorsements deserve a standalone press release — don't bundle them
  • Coordinate timing with Communications Director — avoid announcing on days with negative news
  • Notify endorser's staff before any public statement goes out
  • Brief the endorser on current talking points before any media ask
  • Post on all social channels simultaneously with the press release
  • Have the endorser ready to repost / amplify on their own channels
  • Log the announcement date and any press coverage in the tracker
Managing Declines & Neutrals
  • Always log declines — never assume a "no" is permanent; circumstances change
  • A "not now" is different from a "no" — mark as On Hold, not Declined
  • Never pressure an elected official in a competitive race for their own seat
  • Neutrals who don't endorse Stratton are nearly as valuable as endorsers in some races
  • Track why someone declined in the notes — useful for Comms if they attack Tracy later
  • Declines are confidential — Political Director and senior staff only
  • If a major figure declines, do not announce, do not share externally, do not retaliate
